This week I said farewell to the last of my Grandfathers. I was a fortunate girl to have two such wonderful Grandfathers that loved me as if I were a coveted pearl. They will be sorely missed. Not only by me, but by all.
Even though I greeted my maternal grandfather almost eleven years ago, I still think of him and all the magic moments that we spent together.
Wednesday, July 13, 2005, marks the day that my father called me to inform me that my Grandfather passed away that morning. I write this with a heavy heart because no one is ever ready to say goodbye to anyone that they love. No matter how many signs or warnings come your way, no one ever wants to say farewell to those that they love.
I will do as I was instructed by Grandma Joey: "Remember him as he was and remember that he loved you very much."
I would have loved for Granddad to be at my wedding in December but Grandma Joey said that she will have a photo of him next to her so that I will not miss him so much.
Granddad always looked as though he was really enjoying the moment when he laughed at something. His entire face would radiate with laughter. Just like in the photo above!
That is how Granddad will remain in my mind forever. I just hope that there are plenty of Golf Courses in heaven.
This picture above is of my paternal and maternal Grandfathers. What you see there is who they were. And I have no doubt in my mind that they are in heaven as we speak, having a grand old time together and chatting about the good old days in the Navy.
